Our technical coordinator, Gefion Thuermer, and the work of the IMPETUS project were honoured at the inaugural King’s Engaged Research Awards.
In January 2024, our IMPETUS project technical coordinator, Gefion Thuermer, was delighted to be nominated for the first King’s Engaged Research Awards, organised by the team at the King’s Engaged Researcher Network (KERN). This prestigious award aims to shine a spotlight on the impactful initiatives and research being done by those at King’s College London, in the fields of public and community engagement.
Alongside Gefion and the IMPETUS project, 34 other fantastic researchers and projects were shortlisted for awards, which consisted of four categories:
- Communicating Research, Collaboration,
- Engaged Practice/Participatory Research,
- PhD and Early Career Research Award,
- Transforming Research Culture or Public Life.
We are honoured to have Gefion and the IMPETUS project nominated for the Participatory Research (International) award and to be shortlisted alongside so many esteemed researchers and projects.

On Tuesday, 16th of January, Gefion attended the award ceremony and had the opportunity to talk and share experiences with peers from the shortlisted projects, as well as King’s College London King’s staff, students, and community partners. It was an honour and a privilege to have a representative from the IMPETUS project presented alongside so many other fantastic initiatives and to have the work we are doing to support citizen science recognised.
However, the cherry on top of this fabulous evening was that….

It was an absolute pleasure to be nominated, let alone win, and all of us at IMPETUS would like to extend a huge thank you and congratulations to the entire team at KERN for organising such a wonderful event, as well as to Professor Elena Simperl for the nomination!
