We are thrilled to announce that after the success of the past ten weeks of the IMPETUS call for citizen science projects, we received over 500 applications for the IMPETUS accelerator programme and the European Union Prize for Citizen Science!
First of all, we would like to thank everyone who submitted a citizen science project and all our friends in the citizen science community for helping us share this opportunity. Without your help, we would not have reached the numbers we experienced!

What comes next?
For the IMPETUS Accelerator –
We are now conducting internal eligibility checks on all applications for the IMPETUS accelerator programme. Our panel of citizen science experts will then review all eligible submissions and score applications using the following criteria:
- Idea
- Implementation
- Team and Community
- Impact
Each project is given a score for each criterion on a 1-5 scale, and a short list of applications will be created by mid-April. Short-listed projects will then be invited to an online interview.
After all the interviews, the final project selection will be made, and successful projects will be informed by the end of April.
Then, the fun begins with the IMPETUS BootCamp, an opportunity to learn more about the programme and receive your first training and support from the IMPETUS team, scheduled from May 13th to 24th.

For the EU Prize For Citizen Science-
The IMPETUS team will check all applications for the EU Prize for eligibility. Once this has been conducted, at least two members of our Prize Jury will review all eligible projects and create a short list of projects.
The jury will then meet in person in April 2024 to review the short-listed projects and make their final selection for this year’s EU Prize.
All the prize winners and projects receiving honourable mentions will be informed by mid-June.
