Nesta’s Centre for Collective Intelligence is planning our upcoming IMPETUS webinar, How citizen science can help to fill vital knowledge gaps on women’s health, which will spotlight projects that collaborate with communities to better represent the health needs and experiences of women and AFAB (assigned female at birth) individuals.
This webinar will be held online on Wednesday, 30th April, 13:30 – 14:30 CEST.
Join us for an introduction to how citizen science can engage women in managing their own health. The panel discussion will showcase citizen science initiatives that are generating new data and insights into under-researched topics such as sexual and reproductive health and mental health. The speakers will share practical tips and reflect on how these types of initiatives can lead to policy change in addition to scientific progress.

This session will feature contributions from:

Barbi Seme from the Luna project: This project explores the lived experiences of menstrual cycles using Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM). They engage with citizen scientists to track their daily experiences via a mobile app to better understand the experiential dynamics throughout the cycle, deepen self-knowledge, and advocate for supportive environments and policies.
The Luna Project received funding and support as part of the 2024 cohort of the IMPETUS accelerator program.
Irene Lapuente from Obstetric Coevolution project: Obstetric Coevolution is a citizen science project run by la Mandarina de Newton and funded by the IMPETUS accelerator, with a kick-starting and a sustaining grant, and the Barcelona City Council, that aims to characterize how obstetric practices impact mothers’ mental health to improve childbirth experiences.

Brittany Taylor and Anne-Sophie Gresele from the EndoHealth project: EndoHealth is a citizen science project led by the Patient Experience Observatory in collaboration with the Endometriosis Unit at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. The project aims to develop a new model of care by centering decision-making around the patients themselves.
This online seminar is for practitioners, public sector organisations and anyone interested in working with citizen science data for health.
This webinar is part of IMPETUS, a citizen science innovation programme that aims to bring citizen science closer to society and policymakers and to acknowledge its role in tackling the greatest challenges of our times.
