Citizen Science, Mobility, and Urban Planning – Exploring how citizen science is shaping urban mobility and planning.

Participants heard from two IMPETUS pilot projects focused on mobility in cities:

London Borough of Islington: Accessibility Audit – Esther Craven

Citizen Scientist Monitoring of Local Road Traffic Interventions – Chloe McFarlane

This was followed by insights from Robert McIntosh of Telraam, who shared practical experience in setting up traffic monitoring networks and fostering dialogue between communities and planners.

Citizen Science and Climate Resilience – how citizen science helps understand urban extreme heat

At this session, we were joined by Josep Perello and Isabelle Bonhoure from Open Systems research group who will share insights about their new project Heat Chronicles to tackle urban extreme heat in Barcelona. We also heard from two IMPETUS accelerator pilots that are also using different types of citizen science approaches to address the urban heat island effect in Barcelona, CALOR and Heat Watchers in Action.

The importance of designing for inclusion and diversity in citizen science

This discussion featured contributions from Stefanie Oikonomou from the Acting4DHH project, Katerina Egorova from Map4REC, Alina Puce from Valmiera Joint Library, and Aspasia Tasiopoulou from Veria Central Library.

In this session, we learnt about these projects’ approaches to promote inclusion and diversity within their citizen science work.
